Book Review: "The Prodigious Above" by Hiromi Shinya

Mireia Cervera 17 June 2016

The book "The Prodigious Enzyme" has become very famous in the world and in Spain particularly. A year or two ago a television program talked about this book, presenting it as a revolution in the way we think about our health.d and lifestyle. What is it about? And what sets it apart from the mountain of healthy lifestyle and nutrition books on the market today?

Japanese author Hiromi Shinya is a physician isbowel health and colonoscopy specialist. In the book he explains his theory about the mother enzyme . According to him, all the enzymes in our body are formed from a single enzyme - the mother enzyme , which little by littlelittle runs out because we have a certain amount for life. When the mother enzyme is depleted - life ends. The author says that there are certain habits that deplete it more and others that save it and do not allow it to wear out so quickly. So the book trat about life habits and also about eating habits that allow you to keep your mother enzyme intact.

The book has little scientific basis, most of the data is based on the author's clinical experience. And even if he mentions some scientific study, he does not cite it with what is not very rigorous. One of the things that, according to the author, confirms the importance of enzymes in our health, is that carnivorous animals do the first thing when they capturetheir prey is to eat their intestines and organs that are full of enzymes, which is the most valuable thing there is, in addition to that they can get half-digested plants. I have heard and read about the importance of enzymes in several places, but this oneOría, from the mother enzyme , is the first time I've heard it.

The book "The Prodigious Enzyme" explains what lifestyle we have to lead to avoid the depletion of the mother enzyme.

There are other theories in this book that caught my attention. For example, the theory of feeding according to the teeth : if we compare the proportion of teeth that are destined for food of animal origin (meat) and the teeth thatThey have the function of chewing vegetables and cereals - it turns out that 85% of the teeth are for plant foods and 15% for foods of animal origin. That means that by nature we must eat food in this proportion, let's say it is aflexiterian diet , which is becoming more and more fashionable.

Another theory about meat. Animals have different body temperatures: for example chickens and others birds have a temperature much higher than that of the human body and fish lower. According to the author, this means that the fat provided by these animals is diluted according to the body temperature of this animal. So we don'tIt is advisable to eat animals that have a higher body temperature than ours (especially white meat), because otherwise this fat accumulates and causes metabolic disorders.

This book talks a lot about the importance of traditional food and local and seasonal food , with examples from the US and Japanese diets, and fromthe people who move to another country and the devastating effects that this has on their health.

Apart from different theories there is a lot of information about some products in particular, and one of them is dairy, the author explains why we should notdairy products and what effect it has on our health (you can also read it in another book, a review of which we have published recently).

According to Hiromi Shinya, the best meat we can eat is fish meat, because it has a lower body temperature than ours and that is why fats are metabolized in a better way.
