Mireia Cervera 15 March 2022

Once again on March 15, our Ramon Barri Auditorium opened its doors to celebrate our Flax & Kale Talk 12 , led by Nuria Duran, Dietitian-Nutritionist, specialist in child and family nutrition.

I gave itThis vegetarian is a choice chosen by millions of people around the world. However, is it good for a child to follow a vegetarian diet? Nuria Duran, Dietitian-Nutritionist specialized in infant and family nutrition, explained the mIt was around this topic and provided us with ideas for feeding our children in the healthiest way possible.

Our guest explained to us that properly planned vegetarian diets, including vegans, aren healthy, nutritionally adequate, and can provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. But it must be clear that, as with any other type of food option, ifIf not planned correctly, they can pose a risk of nutritional and energy deficiencies, especially in the case of the most restrictive diets. If doubts arise or more specific recommendations are wanted, it is always good to go to a dietista-nutritionist to guide us.

Whether they are vegetarian or not, it is very important, Núria Duran remarked, that meals are a pleasant and joyful moment. And you should minimize the consumption of superfluous, rich foodsin sugar, salt and saturated fat. The foods offered should be rich in energy, protein, iron, and zinc and may include tofu, seitan, legumes, seeds, and whole grains.

A vegetarian diet can be perfectly balanced and healthy.

One of the big concerns for strict vegetarian parents is calcium. But according to Núria Duran they shouldn't worry. In the first months babies get it from breast milk or formula. Later, in addition, the verduLeafy greens, tofu, fortified plant milks, nuts (especially almonds), tahini, figs, and legumes are good sources of this mineral.

To conclude, Núria Duran showed us the resultsSome studies in which the diet of vegetarian children has been compared with the diet of non-vegetarian children and conclude that an ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet provides adequate development and physical growth, such asany other type of balanced and healthy diet.

When Nuria Duran finished, question time was opened, and as always, dishes related to Talk were served as tastings. In this case, vegetarian dishes were chosenfor kids: Mini Veggie Soy Burger with diced baked sweet potato and our Cashew Choco Shake Veggie Drink.
